In compliance with COVID -19 preventives, we adopted a virtual delivery approach to safely execute the programmes activities for the first half of the year, transitioning to a hybrid model that allows some part of in-person delivery while the remaining still is remotely attended.

Here are some of the key initiatives delivered throughout the year to achieve the programme objectives.

Powering Lives through Enterprise Development

Shell Tameer Enterprise Development Bootcamps

Shell Tameer Enterprise Development Bootcamps are designed to help young innovators draw upon their creative potential to build successful business ventures.

The multimodule training programme consists of 7 e-modules and 14 hours of enterprise learning on the topics “Understanding Enterprise, Business Model Canvas, Market Research, Financial Management, Business Legalities and Business Pitch Perfection.

This year Shell Tameer has successfully trained two cohorts of Bootcamps in collaboration with Bahria University Karachi Campus and Institute of Business Management – Karachi.

Seasoned subject matter experts from Shell and other Tameer partner networks facilitated the activity-based sessions to guide participants on understanding the needs and dynamics of the local market and then tailor innovative products / services to meet that demand.

64 students and entrepreneurs from diverse business sectors have been trained to further improve their business ideas and perfect their investor pitch skills.

Workshops for Local Communities

In the district of Muzaffargarh, the young talented students of the TVET institute - Mushtaq Ahmed Gurmani Foundation attended a full day workshop on the basics of Enterprise Development. With an overwhelming response of over 180 registrations, three workshops were conducted during the Global Entrepreneurship Week 2021, with a classroom size of nearly 50 each day.

Shell Tameer worked with these skilled youth to plant the seed of entrepreneurship by guiding them on how they can use their skills and innovative ideas in contributing towards their own livelihood generation and help in their overall community development.

Shell Tameer Webinars

As part of our digital strategy, Shell Tameer hosted two webinars on” Design Thinking”, facilitated by Saif ur Rehman, a social sector professional and MBA graduate at University of Columbia.

The second webinar was on “Maximize Your Business Growth – Learn The Essential Of E-Commerce” facilitated by Ahsan Jabbar, a serial entrepreneurs and Founder of iwant.pk, a local e-commerce platform to promote Pakistani products in the global markets.

Attended by a group of over 30 participants, the sessions were aimed at helping young start-ups redefine their strategic direction by adopting a design thinking approach and knowing when to diversify or switch over to a digital platform. 

The Tameer webinar series on enterprise development is part of Tameer’s virtual transformation to enhance the digital outreach and engage audience through a flexible and safe virtual access from their homes, offices and universities.

Encouraging Economic Growth through Business Formalization

Business formalization is one of the factors contributing towards the economic growth of Pakistan. Shell Tameer strongly encourages the formal business registration of its start-ups to help them gain access to finance, business development support and technologies while educating them on the government regulatory framework for entrepreneurs.

In 2021, Shell Tameer in collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA), organized a session for the top 6 young entrepreneurs that had the best pitch from Tameer’s NED Engineering University cohort.

The start-ups received guidance from SMEDA experts on business registration, IP rights and various business taxation services while also helping them through the process. Shell Tameer Awards Finalists were also mentored to become the tax-filers, resulting in creating 10 filers.

Celebrating the Spirit Of Enterprise

International Women’s Day 2021

To celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021, Shell Pakistan featured 3 Shell Tameer women entrepreneurs in a promotional video to celebrate and acknowledge the achievements of Pakistani women. Focused around this year’s theme “choose to challenge” the video highlighted the struggles and challenges of Pakistani female entrepreneurs and how they are changing lives through their impactful entrepreneurial ventures. Shell Tameer Awards 2021

Shell Tameer Awards is a prestigious platform of the programme to celebrate and reward the young Pakistani entrepreneurs.

This year, we held our 8th Shell Tameer Awards at Shell House Karachi. 125 entrepreneurs registered across 6 diverse categories, 20 outstanding start-ups and ideas made it to the final and were further groomed through one-on-one sessions with Shell’s global consultant DAI. Through this programme, over 20 million people were reached.

Integrating Tameer Start-ups in the Value Chain

Young startups are often challenged owing to the lack of resources and opportunities to enter large markets.

Shell Tameer collaborates with partners to help identify the most innovative startups who have the potential to strategically deliver new value to Shell through their business innovations.

This year two start-ups are conducting pilots at Shell Mobility stations around waste recycling and increased energy efficiency:

ENENT

Shell Tameer Awards 2021 and Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators grant winner., ENENT is a clean-tech electronics start-up focused on designing innovative products that can reduce electricity bills and power loss up to 20%. The 3-phase load balancing device is installed at a Mobility site that aims to reduce electricity bills while also increasing transformer life expectancy.

TrashIT

Shell Tameer Awards 2021 Winner in circular economy, Trashit, a tech-based waste recycling startup enabling communities to reduce their waste footprint while creating opportunities for the informal waste pickers in the supply chain is currently operating waste collection across four mobility sites for both organic and non-organic wastes that are being correctly disposed, turned into compost or recycled.
