The nationwide competition spread over 4 months culminated in a 2-day finale with PKR 7.5 million prize money distributed amongst the 12 winning idea champions. A jury panel of 24 renowned business leaders from across the industry awarded the startups for their uniqueness, relevancy and applicability to be winners and runners-up for 2022. More than 60 media opportunities were utilized across 16 media outlets including digital, social media and print platforms as well as radio and TV channels to bring the qualifying entrepreneurs into the limelight.

The award process kicked off with a call for applications launched over the program website, Tameer.Shell.com.pk. After a four-year hiatus, the Tameer roadshows were put into drive again and the team reached out to young entrepreneurs via business education institutes and innovation centers nationwide including NIC, Plan 9, KPIT, IBA, LUMS, Karachi University, NUST, IoBM, Muhammad Ali Jinnah University, Sindh Madrassatul Islam and Bahria University.

The impact created culminated in a total of 253 applications received from across the country. A diverse bunch of 14 enthusiastic volunteers assisted the Shell Tameer team shortlist 30 finalists hailing from cities as diverse as Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Jamshoro and Hunza to compete for the winning prize.

As part of the Tameer commitment towards enterprise development, the 30 finalists were coached to create winning pitches through webinars and one-on-one mentoring sessions by an expert from DAI, Shell LiveWIRE’s global development partner. Local PR and media experts further geared-up the participants to shine bright in the media spotlight and present themselves and their ideas over electronic, print and digital media. They also trained them on how to network effectively with relevant industry stakeholders and drive the right conversations.

The 30 business innovation ideas shortlisted competed across six Tameer award categories including Circular Economy (CE), Clean Energy Solutions (CES), Empowering Women (EW), Technological Innovation (TI), Transportation & Mobility (T&M) and Bright Ideas.

While curating the jury panel for each category, the Tameer team included relevant stakeholders via whom finalists could get opportunities within their respective industries, including the Shell value chain. This involved integrating 6 brands and businesses from Shell Pakistan into Shell Tameer for the first time in the award’s 19-year history in Pakistan to sponsor the award categories, lending more credence to the idea of Fuel Your Ambition. These sponsors from Shell Select, Shell Recharge, Shell Women’s Network, Shell VPower & Shell Helix Ultra, Shell Fleet Solutions and Shell Nature Based Solutions also became part of the jury panel.

External jury members included Jehan Ara, Founder & CEO Katalyst Lab; NIC Project Directors Omar Abedin and Syed Azfar Hussain; and other industry leaders from the sectors of energy & transportation, automobile manufacturing, FMCG, banking and fintech, digital marketplaces, sustainable development etc.

The 12 winners and runners-up from each of the categories were announced at the grand event celebrating 75-years of Shell in Pakistan. The celebratory event that invited leaders and stakeholders from across the industry placed Shell Tameer at the heart of the ceremony, where our innovators got the chance to interact with relevant professionals and carry out impactful conversations.
