Strategic Collaborations: Climate Launchpad Pakistan
Feb 08, 2021
Shell Tameer believes that strategic collaborations with the right partners are the key to long term success and greater impact.
In 2020, we continued to support our partners like Climate Launchpad Pakistan to create opportunities for clean energy innovators.
There were 71 applicants from across Pakistan, out of which 12 teams were shortlisted for a three-day virtual training boot camp. Shell Tameer contributed as a jury member in the shortlisting process to select the best entrepreneurial talent. The training was facilitated by a global ClimateLaunchpad trainer Dr Mike Goodfellow-Smith, from the United Kingdom.
The twelve teams competed locally, pitching in front of a stellar jury including Faisal Sherjan (NIC Lahore); Mohammad Ali Ibrahim (Jazz Pakistan); Sadaf Mahmood (Xiphios Innovations); Nida Athar (Pakistan Innovation Foundation); and Dr Shujaat Mubarak (MAJU),
From twelve participating teams, three teams were selected for ClimateLaunchpad regional final:
- O’Naps – a startup focused on ending period poverty and improving menstrual health and hygiene through their biodegradable sanitary napkins coupled with intensive education and awareness for low income communities
- Aabshar – with a mandate of saving water to save lives, Aabshar has developed a plug and play water management device that can easily be installed on taps to minimize water wastage by 80%
- Peepu – who have enabled inclusion of small farmers across Pakistan by developing a digital marketplace that aims to minimize post-harvest losses
14 countries including Pakistan participated from across the region. 42 teams pitched in 8 categories to compete for 16 semi-final slots. With intense competition, 2 out of 3 Pakistani teams including a Shell Tameer alumnus Aabshar made it to the semi-final, leading in the respective categories they pitched in, namely The Next Big Thing for O’Naps and Resilient Regions for Aabshar.
